Questions we are often asked
Straight answers about where we deliver, how we track your freight and how to work with us.
Working with Vital
Where in South Africa does Vital deliver?
Nationwide. Our primary sites are in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, we have transhipment centres in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, and delivery points in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape.
Where is your head office?
Our head office is at 5 Yaldwyn Road, Jet Park, Boksburg. Call 011 966 0500, Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 16:30.
Are your vehicles tracked?
Yes. Our real-time, web-based satellite tracking monitors speed, harsh braking, door openings, temperature fluctuations and trailer unlocking. Violations are reported in real time and acted on by our 24-hour control room, and onboard cameras are monitored 24/7.
What is Vital's B-BBEE level?
Vital Distribution Solutions is a Level 2 B-BBEE contributor under the Integrated Transport Sector Code (Road Freight), with 125% procurement recognition. The certificate is available on our Documents page.
How long has Vital been operating?
Since 1999. We celebrated 25 years of distribution in 2024 with a fleet of more than 650 vehicles.

Cross-border
Do you transport freight across the border?
Yes. We run full truck load road freight from South Africa into Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia.
Truck hire and fleet
What size trucks do you have?
Our fleet runs from 1-ton light delivery vehicles to 34-ton superlinks: 1 to 3-ton LDVs, 4 to 14-ton medium vehicles, tri-axles and superlinks, with closed body, curtain side, flat deck, drop side and refrigerated options.
Can I hire a truck from Vital?
Yes. Through Vital Fleet we rent vehicles on a daily, monthly, ad hoc or dedicated basis, from 1-ton vehicles to 34-ton superlinks.
Is maintenance included in truck rental?
Yes. Maintenance, servicing and tyre replacements for normal fair wear and tear are included in the monthly rental.
Full truck loads
What is the difference between FTL and LTL?
A full truck load (FTL) fills one vehicle that goes directly from collection to delivery. A less than truck load (LTL) shares space with other consignments on a consolidated shipment, so you pay bulk rates for a smaller load.
What happens if your own trucks are fully booked?
Our brokerage division adds capacity from transporters vetted for quality vehicles, expert drivers, live vehicle tracking and adequate goods-in-transit cover, so your requirements are met at all times.
Transhipment and LTL
What are Nominated Delivery Days (NDDs)?
Nominated Delivery Days are the set days on which each depot delivers to an area. Lead times per area are listed in our NDD schedules, and we work with you to align your delivery points to them.
Why consolidate my freight?
Combining multiple orders into single consigned shipments lets you take advantage of bulk transportation rates, save time and conserve resources.
Cold chain
Can you transport refrigerated goods?
Yes. Refrigerated vehicles are part of our fleet, and temperature fluctuations are monitored in real time by our 24-hour control room. We also build small refrigerated vehicles for dedicated contracts.
Warehousing and food safety
Is Vital food-safety certified?
Our transhipment centre at Rocky's Drift, White River, achieved BRCGS Storage and Distribution certification with an AA grade in 2024.
Dedicated contracts
What is included in a dedicated contract?
Dedicated staff, vehicles and management, planned in our Transport Management System with full routing, scheduling and a live e-POD function, and monitored by our Control Tower.
Visibility and tracking
Can I see where my shipments are?
Our distribution management platform gives managers, expeditors and customers real-time visibility through instant alerts, dashboards and live predictive ETAs.
